Final Standings, Waltham CC BLITZ CHAMPIONSHIP 2018 – 07-20-2018 – 07-27-2018

Fellow Waltham CC players,

Thanks to everyone who played in the 2018 Waltham Blitz Championship.  By one player we beat last year’s attendance with 27 players.  I understand that the WALTHAM  CC 2018 BLITZ CHAMPION, IM Denys Shmelov, is doubly celebrating because he has also just recently become a US Citizen.  We are really pleased to have him as a regular at the Club.

We also welcome Alex Yu, a first timer at our Club who took 3rd Place over all (tied with Ross Eldridge, who won the U1800 Prize), and we hope Alex becomes a regular at the Club too.

Winners:

1st Place: IM Denys Shmelov, 2018 BLITZ CHAMPION

2nd Place: Todd Chase

3rd Place: Alex Yu (tied with Ross Eldridge)

U1800: Ross Eldridge

U1400: Kelsey Liu

Daily Prize, Night #1: Ilya Rozonoyer

Daily Prize, Night #2, William Kelleher

Please note down the following upcoming events:

10/12/18 – 11/10/18 WALTHAM CC 2018 CHAMPIONSHIP & AUTUMN OPEN

And we hope to see you again soon over the board.

Final Standings, Waltham CC Summertime Thematic Tournament – 06-22-2018

Fellow Waltham CC players,

On the longest day of the year, 13 players gathered at Waltham Chess Club for the first ever Thematic Tournament. We ran the pilot Thematic as an unrated event, 4-Round G/10 d0 double Swiss. The openings played were: Round 1, Queen’s Gambit Accepted; Round 2, Ruy Lopez; Round 3, Nimzo-Indian; Round 4, King’s Gambit Accepted.

Our newest player, Daniel Korbacher, has already distinguished himself as a relatively new USCF player by winning prizes at each of the events he’s played in. We hope he’ll continue to come and improve as he plays in diverse time-controls tournaments.

Winners:

1st Place: Ilya Rozonoyer

2nd Place: Yuriy Zhaurov

3rd Place: Alan Song

U1800: Daniel Korbacher

Please notify me if you enjoyed having a Thematic and would like to see more of them. We can make them Rated and can feature other Openings or even have a single Opening used all night.

Blitz next week. Thanks and see you over the board.

Final Standings Concord-Carlisle June G/30 d5 – 06-10-2018

Fellow Concord-Carlisle Chess Players,

Great way to end the Concord-Carlisle academic season! Thanks to the 40 players who came in droves to make one of our most successful Concord-Carlisle events. I had the pleasure to meet David, the coach from Carlisle who came to visit. He may help us to collaborate between Concord and Carlsle Chess Clubs to make some even bigger and more diverse-ratiing events starting in late October.

Congratulations to Ashot who improved on his second-place finish last time to triumph this time with 3.5 points. Congratulations also to Shouri who is evidently ready, after his 3.5-point event today, to play some higher-ranked players in a hurry.

Winners:

Over Age 11 (>=800 Rating)

1st: Ashot Melkonyan

2nd-3rd (tied): Lucas Kamon (2nd trophy), Ian Van Hulle, Bryan Henroid

Age 11 & Under (<800 Rating)

1st-2nd (tied): Shouri Mosaliganti (1st trophy), Dattasai Kilari

3rd (tied): Ariel Zhou (trophy), Chirag Katragadda, Teo Beckwith, Jayden Wu, Raymond Vasile

Look for our next tournament in late October. Have a great summer and we’ll see you again over the board.

Final Standings, Concord-Carlisle March Scholastic G/30 d5 – 03-25-2018

Fellow Concord-Carlisle Chess Club players,

Tremendous gratitude and appreciation to the 44 players who turned out in record numbers at the Concod-Carlisle March Scholastic G/30 d5. Even after getting ten tables ready with twenty boards, we had to add two more! (A good problem to have.) Special thanks to Matt Kamon for all his help with organization and especially ordering in the late afternoon pizza. Our combined efforts in marketing evidently paid off big-time.

I would like to acknowledge one player, Kaiya Smits, one of the Medalists in the Age 11 & Under Section. She will be playing in the Mass. Girls Championship at Boylston Chess Club this coming Sunday 4/1/18. We are glad she played and wish her the best of luck in the Girls Championship.

Winners:

Over Age 11:

1st Place: Henry Booth

2nd Place: Ashot Melkonyan

3rd Place: Lucas Kamon

Age 11 & Under:

1st Place: Sritan Devineni

2nd Place: Holden Chalfant

3rd Place: Franklin Lewis

Medalists: Frank Yun Xu, Kaiya Bridgit Smits,Sriaditya Vaddadi, Justin Lang Sun, Joshua Lee

Everyone please mark down 6/10/18, when it will be nice warm weather at the beginning of summer, for our final Concord-Carlisle Scholastic of the season.

Let’s make it even bigger than this one! See you over the board.
