Final Standings, Waltham CC Pat Arena Memorial Open 2019 – 10-18-2019 – 11-15-2019

Fellow Waltham CC players,

Thanks to everyone who played in the 2019 Pat Arena Memorial Open over the past five weeks.  Given the challenge in attending week after week consistently,  we appreciate the sportsmanship of all those players who showed up almost as unanimously on Week 5 as on Week 1.

The Invitational Championship is currently in a state of abeyance as the final game to decide the title, between Steve Winer and Bryan Hu, is delayed.  We will get word out as soon as we have a winner.

The final results are below my signature.  We look forward to having greater numbers of players at next year’s Pat Arena Open.  Have a great Thanksgiving and we’ll see you on the other side for the 2019 Quick Championship.

Nicholas P. Sterling, Ph.D.
Waltham CC, Championship Director

Final Standings, Fuller Craft April G/25 d5 – 04-29-2017

Fellow Brockton Chess Players,

Thanks to everyone who came to play in the Fuller Craft April G/30 d5 as part of the Fuller Craft Chess Club series. Due to an advertising glitch on my part, we did not get as many players as we might have, but we did get six and were happy to have them. They got to eat all the pizza and the abundant snacks.
Because we needed to wrap up earlier than normal due to a later scheduled event, we changed the time control to the quicker G/25 d5 instead of the advertised G/30 d5, As a result, we were finished by 3:00 PM!
With only six players, we had just one Section, and here are the winners:
1st Place: Gregor Klimov
2nd Place (tied): Naor Wiesel, William Neminovsky
Upcoming:
The dates are not set yet, but we have the following events on tap:
1. Rated Blitz at our Thursday Club
2. Our next weekend QUADs
3. Summer weekend Chess Camp
4. Our Spiegel Cup Series Tournament in the fall
This is a wonderful location for our Chess Club. See you over the board.

We had several new players, and we had some superb knockouts scored by the two kids Noah Brauner and Alex Mayo (who played in his first USCF-rated tournament this weekend). The winners (shown in the full standings below my signature) were as follows:

QUAD #1: Walter Driscoll

QUAD #2: Noah Brauner

Please join us this Thursday for the Fuller Craft Chess Club’s inaugural Blitz Tournament this Thursday 2/2 4-8 PM. We’ll find out while we’re playing whether the Groundhog saw his shadow.

$200 guaranteed cash prizes! This is the first tournament I have ever directed ANYWHERE with guaranteed cash prizes.

Finally, please mark on your calendar Saturday 4/29/17 for our next G/30 d5 QUAD. We’ll try to get more players and a bigger cash cow for some really neat and cool money prizes.

We’ll see you this Thursday!
