Final Standings, Concord-Carlisle March Scholastic G/30 d5 – 03-25-2018

Fellow Concord-Carlisle Chess Club players,

Tremendous gratitude and appreciation to the 44 players who turned out in record numbers at the Concod-Carlisle March Scholastic G/30 d5. Even after getting ten tables ready with twenty boards, we had to add two more! (A good problem to have.) Special thanks to Matt Kamon for all his help with organization and especially ordering in the late afternoon pizza. Our combined efforts in marketing evidently paid off big-time.

I would like to acknowledge one player, Kaiya Smits, one of the Medalists in the Age 11 & Under Section. She will be playing in the Mass. Girls Championship at Boylston Chess Club this coming Sunday 4/1/18. We are glad she played and wish her the best of luck in the Girls Championship.

Winners:

Over Age 11:

1st Place: Henry Booth

2nd Place: Ashot Melkonyan

3rd Place: Lucas Kamon

Age 11 & Under:

1st Place: Sritan Devineni

2nd Place: Holden Chalfant

3rd Place: Franklin Lewis

Medalists: Frank Yun Xu, Kaiya Bridgit Smits,Sriaditya Vaddadi, Justin Lang Sun, Joshua Lee

Everyone please mark down 6/10/18, when it will be nice warm weather at the beginning of summer, for our final Concord-Carlisle Scholastic of the season.

Let’s make it even bigger than this one! See you over the board.

Nicholas P. Sterling, Ph.D.

Final Standings, Concord-Carlisle SCS 2017-2018, 11-18-2017

Fellow SCS Chess Players,

After a disappointing turnout at my first SCS event back in September, I’m pleased beyond measure to have rebounded so abundantly, with 25 players participating, at the Concord-Carlisle SCS. Although it was tight for the 14U Section, we eked out enough to get three separate Sections. I’m especially happy to report that this is the best attended Club SCS so far in the 2017-2018 season.

Isaac Gordon in 11U and Alexander Tran in 8U both extended their massive SCS Point leads. They may be virtually unstoppable at this point.

Winners:

14U

1st – Henry Booth
2nd – Ian Van Hulle
3rd – Lucas Kamon

11U

1st – Holden Chalfant
2nd – Sritan Devineni
3rd – Isaac Gordon

8U

1st – Alexander Tran
2nd – Rami Klemencic
3rd – Justin Sun

Our next two tournaments are in 2018: Sundays 3/25 and 6/10. And I am directing the two remaining Club SCS at Boylston CF on Sunday 1/21/2018 and at Chess Empire Kids in Wakefield on Sunday 2/25/2018.

See you all soon over the board. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Final Standings, Concord-Carlisle Scholastic March G/30 d5 – 03-12-2017

Fellow Concord-Carlisle players,

Brrr! This was not the most fun tournament to run on a bitter cold March weekend. The heater in the building broke over the cold weekend, leaving us stranded with no heat or hot water. After suffering through three rounds all bundled up (most of us), we finally gave up on our planned fourth Round.

Despite this contingency, we still had a great time. Thanks in abundance to Yuval, Daniel, and Alexander for helping to organize all these tournaments over the past few years (they will be out of the country the next academic year), and thanks to Steve Frymer for helping to direct.

Winners:

Over Age 11:

Henry Booth (1st)
Lucas Kamon (2nd)
Dylan Jiang (3rd)
Matthew Loose, Daniel Erlich-Herzog, Naor Wiesel (medals)

Age 11 & Under:

Jacob Snell (1st)
Sritan Devineni (2nd)
Tristan Pritchard (3rd)
Caden Obrien, Hari Palaniyappan, John Fullerton (medals)

This ends the tournament season for Concord-Carlisle. However, I still have two more tournaments to direct, one on 4/1/17 in Burlington (no fooling!), and one on 4/29/17 in Brockton. Check out details at masschess.org

, and please note down the dates.See you over the board in what I hope will be a warmer building next time.

A brave dozen of you made your way across snow-covered, windswept, blizzard-struck roads and back-forest paths to the Harvey Wheeler Center in West Concord to compete in our 2nd Annual Blitz. Despite a late start we got done in little more than two hours, and despite a lot turnout we gave away all our Trophies.

Congratulations to the winners:

We hope that many of you will join us in Burlington next Saturday (2/18) for the first ever tournament run by Chess Empire Kids. Details are at http://masschess.org/Events/Event_Details.aspx?Event_ID=5718.

Also, our next Concord-Carlisle event, and the final one for the 2016-2017 season of the Concord-Carlisle Club, is on Sunday

Please join us for both these events!
